HISTORY & EXTRA INFO
His home life was not exactly the greatest when he was a kid. A drunk monster of a father and a timid mother who didn't have a mean bone in her body, let alone the sort of confidence to leave the man who took to beating her anytime any little thing went wrong. It was stressful, to say the least, but there really wasn't much he could do about it, usually being told to simply go outside, as if the paper thin walls were enough to mute their struggle.
At a young age, Tamotsu had already gotten well adjusted to being on his own, becoming independent through necessity. When times were tough at home, he took a long walk across the town to try and clear his head. It was during one of these outings he'd run into this girl. Literally, in fact. He hadn't realized at the time just how amazing it was, running into his partner at such a young age. Actually, he was kind of annoyed at first, almost as much as she was, but ended up helping her out. And from that little encounter blossomed an odd but pleasant relationship, the girl serving to give him a much needed dose of happiness.
Unfortunately, it wouldn't last. His dear friend had gone missing so, naturally, Tamotsu took to tracking her down, concerned. They usually talked to each other every day so it was sort of odd for her not to show. He figured out why soon enough though. Losing a parent couldn't have been easy, and seeing her in such a numb state was shocking, to say the least. He was fortunate to have snapped her out of it! But then her father had to ruin it. He might have been projecting a bit, maybe just being overprotective. Could even be both, perhaps! Regardless of the reason, he got in an argument with the older man, hardly concerned with the fact he was an adult. Not much he could do about it all though and frustrated, he stormed off. Last thing he remembered was Rika calling his name, and turning back to see that haunting scene. If seeing your best friend get hit by a car wasn't bad enough, being blamed for it really took the cake. He wanted to stay with her, but it was out of the question. He could only watch solemnly as she was whisked away in an ambulance and that was the last he'd see of her.
Without her company, he fell back into his usual routine, only now he was wracked with worry and guilt. He'd numb to it eventually, or that was what he fooled himself to believe, and things sadly went back to normal, which meant returning his focus to his own broken family. At first, Tamotsu could really do nothing but watch, far too little to be manning up to his old man. But when he got older, bolder, he finally grew tired of the treatment. He and his father fought on an almost constant basis, at first solely because of the man going after the woman who depressingly enough, came to accept her role as the punching bag, but eventually it got to the point where the two were practically at each other's throats the moment they were in the same room. All the violence eventually became too much for her fragile heart to handle and she grew ill. Unsurprisingly, her exhausted and bruised body couldn't really fight it and she died. The two mourned, having an eerie period of peace. But it wouldn't last long. The man had the gall to blame him for what had happened, resonating another memory that left him even more frustrated. Always nice to find out you are a fighter by accidentally casting a spell against your dad, right? It was certainly satisfying for him, at least. But both fearful and full of hate, the man sort of kicked him out, which was perfectly fine with Tamotsu at the time. What did he need a drunk bastard for anyway?
At the age of sixteen he was out of the house and forced to take care of himself. His name etched, Sovereignty, ironically enough. He tried not to think too much of it and, honestly, didn't concern himself too much about finding out who his partner would be. Fortunately, they'd bump into him instead a couple years later... again. It was like the young man had saw a ghost and he simply stood there, frozen, until she ended up embracing him. Somehow they managed to find each other again. But this time, he was determined to be there for her always, if not solely to make up for what he'd done in the past.

EXTRA INFO
SIGNIFICANT PERSONS Mr. Maeda (Father) - Their relationship is on the rocks, and that's putting it lightly. The two would be content with never seeing each other again, honestly. Mrs. Maeda (Mother) - He loved his mother, as much as she hated how timid she could be. He'll never understand why she willingly allowed herself to be treated so poorly. Never will now. Rika Matsumaru (Partner & S/O) - His purpose, as cheesy as it may sound. She meant a lot to him before he discovered their true name. He did something he can never forgive himself for and is doing everything in his power to make it up to her, totally unaware of her second life. | OCCUPATION STATUS Tamotsu, sadly, doesn't have a steady job. He refers to himself as a jack of all trades, which is basically the nicer way of saying he is unable to excel too much at any given job and it doesn't typically last. To keep afloat, he takes on various odd jobs, some even on the more illegal side of the spectrum. You've gotta do what you've gotta do and with his poor people skills, he can't be too picky! Physical labor is his prowess, despite how scrawny he might appear to be. If he had to choose a job, it's certainly one that's hands on, as desk jobs aren't his savvy. |
QUIRKS & HABITS • He's just a tad lazy at times, especially when it comes to doing things he absolutely doesn't want to. In that state, it's near impossible to snap him out of it. • Can sleep just about anywhere, in any sort of position. It's kind of creepy, actually. Oddly enough, he has sleeping problems and the bags under his eyes have practically become permanent at this point. • It's hard to tell whether his nickname comes from his hair or his sharper than average teeth. The former is untameable and there's no way to fix it, so he doesn't even try. As for his teeth? They've always been that way. There's no explanation. | FIGHTING STYLE He's hardly the most eloquent fighter out there and his spells often come across as rather crass, which is befitting of the young man if you think about it! Still, it seems to do the trick at any rate, even if he's not that much of a poet. His fighting is almost always on the offense, quick and to the point, though sadly his hits are usually hit and miss. Ironically, his most powerful spells are not the ones to attack, but the one to defend his sacrifice. |
