This month Madison was in luck. So much luck. Her head hurt, but she had six dollars. Six. Dollars. It didn't get better than that. I mean, she found the five in a gutter, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. All she knew was that she was getting clean clothes today! And clean clothes were always a good omen, and the launderette a place of wonder. Well, she had to choose between that and a pasta pot, but once again, beggars and choosers. The tall girl bobbed up and down in front of her dryer, beaming with excitement. Of course, she couldn't have just stood around naked, so luckily a nice woman had given her some make-shift clothes. A large jumper and jogging shorts. Madison knew she had to give them back, but two set of clothes?! She liked the sound of that a lot. Maybe the nice lady would let her keep them. She hoped that much, but it was unlikely as most hopes were. What a shame. The whirring of the machine was like music to Maddi's ears, but she couldn't wait for it to stop. 10 minutes and those clothes would be dry and like new again. So warm and soft, mud free and smelling nice as pie. It was the start of a great month, she could feel it in her bones. She was getting some strange looks from the other customers though, not that she was really noticing it at this point, all her attention on the noisy contraption currently holding her in suspense. With the knowledge of knew, clean clothes, her headache was but a minor throb, even if the shop was quite loud, a good number of machines currently doing their jobs. What a service, what a place. Only she wished she could give a tip to the wonderful people who ran this fine establishment and let her use it. Not many people let a homeless girl, who most people thought was a boy, into any kind of shop. Probably the smell. At least, with these knew clothes, it might drown out the certainly strong 'unwashed' smell. It was all too much for her. Having to wait for it, the blank, emotionless machine buzzed on. It would be hurt luck for it to break, or chew up her belongings. Maybe she'd picked up another five dollars that was currently being mashed into uselessness? No, it wasn't a thought worth thinking! No, it would be fine. Just this once, she would get what she wanted. Clean clothes. It wasn't too much to ask, surely?! WORDS 430 TAGS @sascha NOTES d'awww maddi XD. |
